Mookie Betts homered three times for the Red Sox at Camden Yards on Tuesday night. He is the ninth player to have three or more home runs in a game at Camden Yards. If it’s any consolation, the first three-homer game came for the Orioles against the Red Sox.
Unfortunately, the overall balance of three-homer games has now tilted in favor of visiting batters, who have accounted for five of the nine instances.
The First Three-Homer Game at Camden Yards
Roberto Alomar was the first player to homer three times at Camden Yards. He did it against the Red Sox on April 26, 1997, in the sixth season that the Orioles played at the new ballpark.
Albert Belle followed suit for the O’s two years later with three home runs versus the Anaheim Angels on July 25, 1999. Nick Markakis (Aug. 22, 2006) and Chris Davis (Aug. 24, 2012) are the other two O’s batters with three-homer games at Camden.
Erubiel Durazo (Aug. 18, 2004) was the first visiting batter with three home runs, and Josh Hamilton (May 8, 2012) is the only guy to have four home runs in a game at Camden Yards.

What About Memorial Stadium?
There were six games when a batter hit three or more home runs at Memorial Stadium between 1954 and 1991. The Orioles accounted for exactly half of them with Bobby Grich (June 18, 1974), Juan Beniquez (June 12, 1986), and Randy Milligan (June 9, 1990) doing the damage.
Rocky Colavito (June 10, 1959) of the Cleveland Indians was the only batter to have four homers in a game at Memorial Stadium. He was the first batter with three or more home runs in a game at The Old Gray Lady of 33rd Street.
