Walk-Off Walk Continues Run of Ramon Urias Orioles Oddities

“A walk-off walk. Absolutely ridiculous!”

Kevin Brown sounded as surprised as the rest of us as the Orioles defeated the Yankees 2-1 in 11 innings at Camden Yards Friday night.

Ramon Urias, who gave the Orioles their first walk-off win of the 2021 season on April 13, earned this season’s first walk-off after being down 0-2 in the count to Aroldis Chapman.

As the baseball world should know by now, Orioles batters welcome the challenge of facing the fire-balling Chapman.

If you want an odd baseball finish, Urias is your man. His prior walk-off heroics featured a fielders choice to defeat the Washington Nationals on July 25, 2001. That came after the aforementioned walk-off against the Seattle Mariners on April 13, 2021, which happened in a seven-inning game.

The Orioles finished Friday’s game with 10 walks and six hits. They now rank second in the American League in walks an 14th in hits.
