Jordan Lyles makes his Baltimore Orioles debut on Saturday afternoon versus the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. The Orioles signed the 31-year-old, free-agent righty in March after he spent the last two seasons with the Texas Rangers.
Here are some odds and ends about the new Orioles pitcher:
- Former Oriole Mark Trumbo is the batter who has homered the most off of Lyles. Trumbo has three homers versus Lyles, all of which came during the 2013 season.
- Lyles has allowed one career home run at Tropicana Field. Former Rays third baseman Mike Brosseau took Lyles deep last April. He’s also allowed one career home run at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Kelvin Gutierrez took Lyles deep on Sept. 25, 2021.
- Lyles took a perfect game into the eighth inning on May 15, 2018 while pitching for the San Diego Padres. Trevor Story broke up the perfect game with a one-out single for the Colorado Rockies. Said Lyles afterward: “We made a good pitch. It was a clean hit, so it was all good.”
- Lyles pitched his first career shutout and hit his first career home run in the same game on Sept. 30, 2012. Lyles’ complete-game effort for the Houston Astros eliminated the Milwaukee Brewers from playoff contention. He’s hit two career home runs.

Sort of a spontaneous decision, to be honest. We’ll see where it goes. I have some other projects in mind to build off of this.
